Autonomous retail tech startup aiming to disrupt the convenience retail industry.
JUXTA went from a hand drawn storyboard to a working prototype in the field, with a pipeline of paying customers within nine months. This is the combination of both the power of the design thinking / innovation process + the desire + the drive of the JUXTA team.
On day one, the team crafted a challenge statement of 'How might we deliver the next generation of the convenient experience for consumers in a way that brings convenience closer to their daily lives?'
Twelve weeks later, JUXTA was born.
As Creative Director / Design Lead, I continued to support JUXTA through their official market launch (September 2023) + beyond by steering the design direction + crafting a cohesive narrative across various channels including their website, LinkedIn page, sales decks, one-pager marketing materials, signage + branding packages. With a focus on strategic design, I aimed to elevate JUXTA's visual identity + communication across these platforms to ensure a polished + impactful presence in the market.
The result was a cohesive, scalable brand experience that worked whether the cube was parked at a trailhead, a corporate campus, or a transit hub.
The design system was built to move with it.
THE CHALLENGE
EXTENDING REACH
The design team crafted a challenge statement of 'How might we deliver the next generation of the convenient experience for consumers in a way that brings convenience closer to their daily lives?' This addressed the changing landscape of transportation -- the rise of electric + autonomous vehicles.
Every wayfinding + graphic decision had to pull double duty: communicate the brand AND guide the experience, simultaneously.
The SOLUTION
AUTONOMOUS RETAIL
An unstaffed, portable, micro-retail store that enables highly profitable retail expansion with a low-cost operating model. Nomad allows retailers to expand their brand into profitable locations unreachable today by brick-and-mortar stores.
The visual identity extended across every brand touchpoint: the physical unit, digital interfaces, sales materials, + launch campaign — all speaking the same design language.
OUTCOME
From Storyboard to Paying Customers in Nine Months
By addressing labor, capital, location + convenience pain points JUXTA strategically positioned themselves to take convenience retail beyond brick-and-mortar with the highest profit per square foot retail format in the world.
JUXTA is a proof point that design thinking applied to spatial + brand problems produces outcomes that go well beyond aesthetics.

CONVENIENCE IN MOTION
JUXTA expands operations without straining existing team members. Operating requires just 20% of a full time employee’s time (stocking and cleaning).
The cost of capital (interest rates) and the expense of building new stores are both at a multi-decade high. Investments in retail growth at less than 1/10th the cost of a new brick-and-mortar store.
